St. Lucie County Jail

Closing Advice

Interview with Henry and Bob

JM: Is there anything else you would want a friend or family member to know if they have a loved one going to jail?
Henry: Yes. Support the family or friend to the fullest of your ability. They will need your support in such a hell-hole of a place.
Bob: Keep in constant contact with them. Write and talk on the phone. Send them pictures. Visit them. Having a support system on the outside is very important. Also having money in the inmates account is very important. But again, be aware that the county takes $20 per week out of the inmates account for "sustinance" and also the inmate will have money deducted for nurse / doctor / dentist visits so take that into account as well.

JM: Is there anything else you would recommend to a future inmate?
Henry: Just do your time and nobody elses.
Bob: Don't do the crime.. But if you do then lay low, do your time, don't cause any problems and lear from the experience. Also, if you have an addiction problem ask to be put in the drug / alcohol program. They also have a GED program for inmates that lack a High School Diploma. Finally they offer a culinary program as well. Make use of the time you are there. Become a trustee if possible. It's best to stay busy (in a positive way), while you are there.
